Shaping Narratives

This is an ongoing campaign that we launched at Africa Day 2015 and it aims to collect 1 million photographs telling the story of Africa’s beauty, celebrating our diversity and uniting African youth around topics of identity and culture. Our members talked to the media to promote #AfricaSmile vision in changing the narrative about Africa.

#ILoveMyContinent Campaign

AYM Committee on Peace and Security launched in Sep 2015 #ILoveMyContinent campaign during the International Day of Peace, to redefine youth approach to peacebuilding and non-violence activism in Africa and reaffirm the aspiration of African youth for a better and secured future. In this vein, our members light “Candles of Hope” for a Peaceful and United Africa. The campaign does not stop there but it continues for 8 months to support children in three refugee camps across Africa and light candles of hope, knowledge and opportunities. It’s time to ACT, to Heal, to Educate and to “light candles of Hope“ for these children. Watch the video of AYM Committee on Peace and Security

Girls around the world still face stigmas about menstruation and lack the necessary resources and sanitation to manage their periods properly because of insufficient knowledge, information, and infrastructure. This causes them to drop out of school and not participate in learning. Afrika Youth Movement committees on Health and Gender are championing the Menstrual Hygiene Day and have organized local actions to increase awareness for menstrual hygiene. In Cameroon, at Mautu Community, we distributed 530 sanitary pads to 654 girls. In Ghana, at Bongo district, Upper East Region, we distributed sanitary pads and sensitized 272 girls of Nyaruga D/A Junior School. AYM championed the Menstrual Hygiene Day with local action in Ghana, Kenya and Cameroon, campaigning, educating and raising awareness where we reached about 976 young girls and women in these 3 countries.
