Call for nomination to AYM Committees Chairs and Vice-Chairs

Dear AYM Family,

Since January 2015, The African Youth Movement has created a community of unique individuals who share the passion and determination to create positive and lasting change in Africa. With the hard work of our Committees and other working groups in the movement, we are creating a vision that is growing into one of the largest movements in Africa.

As part of shaping our structural organisation, we are holding new democratic elections for the different committees as their term ended by December 31st, 2015. Chairs and Vice-chairs positions in six committees are up for election. Let us continue our growing together and collective action to claim our rights to peace and social justice.

We wish the best to the to-be-elected Chairs and Vice-Chairs and look forward to working together for another year of challenges and achievements.

Nominate yourself or another exceptional individual for the positions of Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the five committees below:

  • Chairperson and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Education
  • Chairperson and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Employment and Entrepreneurship
  • Chairperson and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Governance and Transparency
  • Chairperson and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Identity, Culture and Heritage
  • Chairperson and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Peace and Security

Please note all the positions are voluntary non-paid honorary positions

The nominees shall be:

  • Aged between 18 and 35 years old
  • Have the broadest and most profound knowledge about AYM’s vision and objectives.
  • Able to make positive contribution to the movement and eager to lead their committees with integrity and commitment
  • Read and respect AYM Code of Ethics that needs to be signed during the position mandate

A letter of nomination (more than two pages) shall be sent to the Elections Committee at , explaining why the nominee should be considered with a strong emphasis on:

  • Leadership ability – including drive, expertise and work ethic
  • Academic ability – can be demonstrated through areas of studying specialization and research
  • Character – evidence of the highest personal integrity and care and concern for others. This may be exhibited through community service, ability to internationally network, skills in public speaking highlighting on African challenges, honors and awards for service, etc…

The committees’ elections are a significant part in the buildup of AYM strong team to achieve our collective mission. In this regards, the process of nomination forms the basis for the Committees’ task of selecting people who in the spirit of AYM, are willing to dedicate themselves to the growth of a dynamic and action-oriented movement.

To nominate yourself or another member, send an email to with your/their full name, the position/committee nominated and letter of nomination. Nominations are due 20 January 2016.

Following this deadline, the Election committee (made of AYM Advisory Board members) will select the top three nominees for each position, then open to public vote. The announcement of the new Chairs and Vice-Chairs will be on February 10th 2016.
