AYM advocates for youth leadership in decision-making at the United Nations (UN). We ensure youth engagement with UNCTAD, UNWOMEN, ECOSOC, UN OHCHR, UNEAC, UNESCO, UN Global Development Co-operation, European Development Days, UNHR Geneva and African
Union Intergenerational dialogue, and in planning meetings of the African Development Bank, BOND and AWID. We frequently advocate for youth leadership on panels discussing social justice, governance, feminism, reclaiming civic spaces and youth political participation.
AYM participated at the African Union Heads of States Summit in Addis Ababa in January 2015 and 2016 as well as intergenerational dialogues since 2013.

We brought our members on the table of high level dialogues and influential spaces of decision-making processes to raise their voices and advocate for our African agenda AYM is represented in CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation as member of the Board of Directors and member of the Youth Action Team (YAT) where we reform global governance and civil society alliances to meaningfully include youth. AYM participated at Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend in Marrakech 7-9 April 2017. We made our intervention on Violent Extremism panel and interviewed UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina J. Mohammed. 30 AYM members attended the Humans Conference in Arusha Tanzania, 23- 24 August 2016 for the launch of the #AfricansRising Movement. AYM members participated vocally in the conversation of #AfricansRising
